“Take it off! Or No Food For You!”
Eagles fans are Mean! After seeing a guy with a Cowboy jersey got physically thrown out of the bar by some Eagles fans at the happy hour before the game, I knew that Broncos jersey outfit wasn’t such a good idea.
We pulled into the tailgate parking lot at 8 in the morning. There were only two Broncos trucks comparing with a dozen of Eagles’. Naturally, the green visitors claimed most of the parking lot as Eagles territory. The oranges/blues were not even allowed to walk by! They’d yell at you, boo you, calling you asshole until you moved your ass away. And there was no gender discrimination either because the Eagles fans don’t necessarily feel the need to be nice to the ladies. You’d be lucky if they don’t call you bitch.
Under the tremendous amount of pressure and the temptation of the juicy hamburger cooked by the Eagle’s tailgaters, I was too wimpy to put on the Broncos jersey. The steak and the hamburger were too good to pass, so I kept my Broncos jersey in the trunk until I had a few plates of the meat.
But when the Eagles fans went over to a Broncos truck to envy their breakfast eggs and onions, they were rewarded with the good smell from the grill and the friendly greetings from the “enemies”.
Some report say there were around 8000 Eagles fans in town this past weekend. Comparing with 67,000 Broncos fans, they were greatly outnumbered in the field.
If you’ve watched the game, you know Broncos kicked Eagles’ ass on Sunday. Instead of giving Eagles fans shit, some Broncos fans were actually showing sympathies to the green visitors for coming all the way here to see their team losing. No wonder Paco said that Broncos fans were the nicest ones.
I watch a lot of Pro basketball games at the Pepsi center and I’ve watched a few Bulls and Houston home games as well. Comparing with the Nuggets fans, those Texans are quite rough. Nuggets fans would never boo their own players. But the Rockets fans would talk shit about anybody and curse their own team. I guess it all comes down to the Denverer’s attitude. 2 years ago when I moved here to work, I noticed right away how laid back this crowd is, thanks to the mountains, trees and the 300 day sunshine the Coloradoans get to enjoy.
As of the distressed Philly fans, they were having a lot of fun stepping and jumping on a poor teddy bear wearing a mini Broncos jersey in the stadium. I know I am not going to Philly to watch any Eagles vs Titans game ’cause I would just get all pissed off!

You drama queen, we werent THAT bad.
Most of the ribbing we gave Denver was in good fun. I was actually proud of my boys for how behaved we were. And you forget, there was a dude in a broncos jersey just 3 people behind you in line getting food.
While 8k or so fans is outnumbered to the 67,000 broncos fans, 8000 fans for an away game is an awesome showing of fan support, especially for a game that is 3/4’s across the country. Yeah, we may be a little loud, but you have to give it up to our fans for our passion. BTW, what happend to the 1,500 broncos fans who no showed for the game? If they didnt want to make the 15 minute drive, Im sure we could have easily got another 1,500 fans from philly to come out and watch.
Also, the cowboys fan who was at the bar was the day before the game, not before the game. And he wore a Cowboys jersey to an Eagles Pep Ralley. He knew what he was getting himself into. To be fair, you should meantion that after they pushed him out the door, we let him in and all was right with the world (with a few asshole chants here and there)
I will give my fellow broncos fans credit. You guys are loud, you guys are passionate, and all of the ones I talked to were very cool. The only trash talk I recieved was from fellow eagles fans when they saw my freddie mitchell jersey and didnt catch on it was part of a costume. Denver definatly has a great fan base.
(And I only stepped on that teddy bear once)

That lucky broncos guy who was getting food from Eagles truck was the Eagles’ tailgater’s friend… i thouhgt you told me that’s why he wasn’t getting any shit… i am sure I would have no problem if I made the announcement that I am paco’s friend.. but that’s 500 people I need to make annoucement to… eh…
that was mean to step on that poor teddy bear… and i don’t even want to know how many eagles guys jumped on that teddy bear.. didn’t you see they attached a string to the bear’s neck and pulled that poor thing around?
But I have to say that you guys cooked some real good steaks and hamburgers.. chicken was good too… I had a lot of fun sitting in the lot and chatting with the guys… Other than the pouring freezing rain in the 4th quarter, it was an AWESOME Sunday!!! Oh, and not to mention the hot chocolate provided by the hard core Eagles fan so I wouldn’t get sick..

Even as an Eagles fan, I have to agree with Yuna on this one. Philly sports fans can be a bit rowdy and mean. After all, I don’t think there too many stadiums in this country that has a build in legal system that can arrest, try, convict, and send you off to a square room with no windows before the game is over. But we are like this because we are so emotionally involved with our favorite sports, and we are just so darn ticked off that we haven’t won anything big in a long while. So c’mon E-A-G-L-E-S, EAGLES!!!

That is one of the great myths. For some reason, we always get pegged as the bad guys. People always talk about us booing santa which happened decades ago, but who talks about the Cleveland Browns fans throwing beer bottles on the field at their players which happened less than five years ago? Nobody. Everyone claims that we are flaky and boo at a drop of a hat, but when K.C. leaves with 8 minute left in a game they are still in, no one says a word.
Truth is the Linc doesnt have a running court and jail, that was the Vet. But thats what people remember.
Truth is, our fans at that game were not that roudy, no more than a group of redskins or giants fans at one of our games.
However the perception of our fans is always negative, but not always warrented.
And it irratates the hell out of me.

Although I love watching sports, I am never a hardcore fan like you Paco. So maybe I don’t understand the emotional involvement when it comes to loving your own team. Majority of the people are probably more like me - love watching our own teams winning.. but hey.. it’s only a game… no need to get all worked up cuz the winning or losing.. And that’s probably why the public has some negative perceptions on some of the fans behaviors while they were simply just trying to express their enthusiasm.
